SPRING 2009 REGISTRATION
Hello Ladies,
It's been a snowy, cold winter, eh?? but the days are getting longer and today
sometimes I went coatless for a while as we walked to sing our valentines for
people around town....and SPRING CHORUS IS COMING!!
This spring we will sing folk songs -or songs that are so familiar they OUGHT
to be folk songs! When you think folk song, though,don't think boring - think
soulful. Soul of the people embedded in melody, harmony, and rhythm. I am thinking
of American songs and also songs from many other places. I already have quite
a few ideas from Africa, Brazil, Balkans - I would love your ideas! The best
way for me to experience your idea is to have music to listen to or look at,
so pass that on to me if you think of a great song. Most songs this spring
will be taught by rote and by ear, and we will have probably 3 songs that we'll
use music to learn. Don't think you have to be a sight singer, though, to learn
by music. Many of us just find our way through the music reading part, and learn
by rote and ear and practice CDs mostly.
The cost for this spring session is $98 ($8 a session for 11 sessions
plus $10 for music) or $140 for mothers and daughters. (Mothers and
daughters, by the way, do not have to be biologically related; if you think of
a young woman you would like to bring as a daughter-in-spirit, she would be welcome!)
To register, tear off the handy dandy sheet below and mail it to me with a deposit
of at least $40 (payable to Brattleboro Women's Chorus) to 120 Guilford Street,
Brattleboro, Vermont, 05301 BY FEBRUARY 25th. You can call me with questions,
254-8994. That's probably better than emailed questions.We will start singing
together again on March 4th (the only verb day in
the whole year!! MARCH FORTH!). We'll meet Wednesdays throughout March at Guilford
Community Church from 7 - 9, and then we'll move to All Soul's Church beginning
on April 1. The only exception to Wednesdays is Monday April 6, when we'll meet
on Monday night to avoid conflicting with Passover that Wednesday. We will also
have a Saturday of sectional rehearsals, probably on April 4 in the morning.
There is financial aid available and I will send or email you a form next week
if you call me to request it. 254-8994. Go ahead and send your registration in,
with a small deposit if you can manage that. We want to make our chorus accessible
to all women and girls over 10 who want to sing together.
You can support scholarships and outreach singing with a donation in
addition to your participation fee. Since we are a nonprofit, your donation is tax
deductible .
If you have questions, give me a call. It's also time to let your friends
know that this is the time to call me if they want to sing with chorus
this spring. Please extend an invitation to sing to women new to town or that
you think might enjoy our group - you are our best publicity, since you know
who we are and what we do!!
