What are the Singing Valentines?

Our Singing Valentine singers are members of Chorus who travel around in small groups (3-8 singers per group) on Valentine’s Day (and sometimes the day before) to serenade people’s loved ones. We will show up festooned in red and pink at any location within 15 miles of Brattleboro and perform 2 songs in 3-part harmonies. We have sung to friends, partners, children or parents, nursing home residents, teachers, bosses...we have sung in homes, police stations, parking lots, offices, schools, grocery stores, and many more crazy locations! We can also sing to people over the phone!

How do I purchase a Singing Valentine?

You may purchase an in-person Singing Valentine for someone you love or just like a lot (there are songs for friendship as well as love songs) as long as they are within 15 miles of Brattleboro. Would you like us to sing to someone out of the area? Hire us to call them up and sing over the phone! We have serenaded people all over the country and, in some cases, have left some fabulous songs on people's answering machines!

What kinds of songs do you sing?poster13

Every year is a little different in terms of the variety of songs we learn. Generally we perform a lot of old time "classic" love songs mixed with some slightly more contemporary tunes. We also have a couple songs that are appropriate for friendship as well as love songs.

Here is a sample of some of the songs we performed for 2013: Our House by Crosby Stills and Nash, Let It Be Me by Everly Brothers, On The Street Where You Live (from My Fair Lady) by Lerner & Lowe, Love Will Find You by Storyhill, and the medley You’ve Got A Friend/You’ve Got A Friend in Me byCarole King/Randy Newman.

You have an opportunity to request the song(s) you wish to be sung to your valentine on the online request form (available in January 2014).

What Makes Us Unique

We offer to all women over the age of ten, regardless of musical experience or expertise, the opportunity to join together in shared musical harmony in a supportive environment. Largely through the aural tradition, the ancient practice of learning by ear, we learn songs from a variety of traditions. We prepare for performances, develop our vocal production skills, and offer audiences moving renditions of songs sung by their family, friends and neighbors.
