The Brattleboro Women’s Chorus presents their fall concert, “Well May the World Go” on Saturday, November 19 at 7:30 and Sunday, November 20 at 4:00. The music is songs of peace, inspired by the beauty of the natural world, songs to soothe, reflect, and inspire.
Director Becky Graber leads nearly 100 women in soulful a cappella as well as songs accompanied by guest musician, Susan Dedell, on piano.
The concert features pieces by two local composers, Will Danforth’s composition, “Well May the World Go,” inspired by Pete Seeger’s piece of the same name; and Mary Alice Amidon’s composition, a setting of Wendell Berry’s poem, “Great Trees.”
Also featured are two by Portland, OR composer, arranger, and conductor Joan Szymko. “River” is a challenging piece based on words by Native American elders and by Edward Everett Hale. And “Like a Mountain” is Joan’s arrangement of a composition by Naomi Littlebear Morena.
Graber arranged “Cool of the Day,” by Jean Ritchie, for her singers, and also arranged a piece in honor of Nobel prizewinner and environmental activist Wangari Matthai of Kenya.
Among the other songs are “Peace Is,” by Fred Small; and “Going to the Mountains,” by Jan Maier.
The Saturday concert is at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church on South Street in West Brattleboro and the Sunday concert is at Centre Congregational Church on Main Street in Brattleboro.
Tickets are available only at the door, $12 Adult; $10 Seniors and Students; $20 Generous.
